There are a few material things that I have lost over the past years, but nothing compares to losing a loved one. Of course it is sad when someone you love passes on, but it can be equally upsetting when a friendship is lost.
I have many wonderful friends, but there are a few friends that I have let slip away either on purpose or on accident. As I have grown, I have a better understanding of what a friendship should be. I tend to put a lot into my friendships and expect the same back. I have found that some friendships are more one-sided and as much sadness as it has brought to me to distance myself from a relationship (and ultimately let go) I have found it is necessary to do so in order to give to those who deserve it instead of those who take advantage.
There are also those friends that I have simply lost touch with for one reason or another. Although it is easier to get back into contact or stay in contact with these people (now with Facebook and such), sometimes the relationships simply are not the same.
I am happy to have had these hard experiences because I feel it shows me how I can be a better friend, but it will always be hard to accept when a friendship is lost.

Your tugging at my heartstrings here. I too put alot into relationships with friends and realized about a year ago that I wasn't getting anything back so sadly we're not as close anymore but I'd still consider her a friend but I realize what I need out of a relationship and what I should get.
aww, i know what you mean about one-sided relationships and now that i've graduated, i'm sure that i will lose touch with some of my friends. it's so sad to think about.
Why is it that relationships can be so hard sometimes! I believe we all grow up and even apart, and that's when it gets hard being the only one trying!
Aww I feel this way many times too, it's hard losing friends, but I guess everyone comes into our life for a reason! :)
